Today is Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day. It’s about more than surgery, it’s about choice, confidence, and control over your own body.
Options after mastectomy may include:¹⁻⁴
• Breast Implants: quicker recovery, no donor site surgery; may be done in stages with a tissue expander.
• Autologous (Flap): your own tissue for a natural look and feel.
• Aesthetic Flat Closure: a smooth, flat chest contour.
What’s new in breast reconstruction after mastectomy?³
• Oncoplastic surgery which combines cancer removal with plastic surgery techniques to reshape the breast during lumpectomy or partial mastectomy.
• Autologous fat grafting which uses fat from another part of the body to correct asymmetry or refine reconstruction results.
BRA Day exists so every patient knows their choices before making them. However you move forward, your decision is yours, and it is worth celebrating.
Reach out to your plastic surgeon to discuss options suitable for your medical condition.
